Resetting your Contour Rollermouse Red wireless trackpad

Resetting your Contour Rollermouse Red wireless trackpad

Is your Contour Rollermouse Red trackpad wireless (RollerMouse Red Wireless) not working as you're used to? A reset returns the wireless connection to default mode. Especially useful after connection problems or when you want to pair the mouse with a new computer. In this article, you'll find step-by-step instructions on how to do it.

When should you do a reset?

A reset usually helps if:

  • The cursor responds slowly or not at all, while the trackpad is switched on
  • Bluetooth pairing with your computer fails
  • The dongle is no longer recognized by your computer
  • You want to move the trackpad to a different computer

Don't reset immediately for every problem. First check that the trackpad is sufficiently charged and that the ON/OFF switch (button I, underside) is set to ON.

What does a reset do?

A reset returns your trackpad to automatic pairing mode. This means that on the next connection it will automatically search for both Bluetooth and the USB dongle, and select whichever is available. Your personal settings such as cursor speed and click force are retained.

The reset procedure in 3 steps

  1. Make sure your trackpad is switched on (switch I on ON).
  2. Press and hold the Cursor Speed button (B).
  3. While holding button B, press the left mouse button (E) once briefly, then release both buttons.

Done. Your trackpad is now back in automatic pairing mode.

Then reconnect

After the reset, you need to pair your trackpad with your computer again. You have two options:

  • Via the dongle: insert the USB dongle into a free USB port on your computer. Your trackpad will be recognized automatically.
  • Via Bluetooth: open the Bluetooth settings on your computer and pair the trackpad as a new device. See the accompanying help center article on connecting for the full steps.

Tips

  • Don't reset more often than necessary. A reset temporarily clears your pairing, so you'll always need to reconnect afterwards.
  • Check the battery first. If battery is below 20%, the middle LED light will flash red. Charge first, then reset.
  • Doesn't the reset work? Then connect the trackpad with the USB charging cable. A wired connection always overrides the wireless settings.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose my cursor speed setting after a reset? No. The reset only changes the wireless connection mode. Your DPI setting, click force and other preferences are retained.

How do I know if the reset was successful? Your trackpad returns to automatic pairing mode and is ready to reconnect via dongle or Bluetooth.

My trackpad doesn't respond at all, not even to the reset buttons. What now? Connect the trackpad to your computer using the USB charging cable. If it works then, the battery was probably empty. Charge for at least an hour first before trying again.

Does this procedure also apply to my Rollermouse Red Plus or another model? No, the button codes differ per model. For other models, consult the corresponding Contour Design manual.

This instruction applies to the Contour Rollermouse Red trackpad wireless (REV 4.0 with Bluetooth). For other RollerMouse models such as Red Plus, Pro, Pro3 or Free3, the steps may differ.
