Connecting Your Contour Rollermouse Red Trackpad Wirelessly via Bluetooth or Dongle

The Contour Rollermouse Red trackpad wireless offers three ways to connect to your computer: via Bluetooth, via the included USB dongle, or via a wired USB connection. In this article, you'll learn how to use each connection method and how to restore the pairing if something goes wrong.

The three connection methods

Bluetooth is convenient if you don't have USB ports available or if you switch between devices frequently. Your RollerMouse can be paired to your computer via Bluetooth without needing the dongle.

USB dongle (the included wireless receiver) is the fastest plug-and-play solution: plug in, turn on, done.

Wired USB connection is used when your battery is empty, or if you want to keep working while charging. A wired connection always takes priority over wireless connections.

Method 1: Connecting via Bluetooth

  1. Turn on your RollerMouse using the power switch (I) on the bottom.
  2. Open the Bluetooth settings on your computer.
  3. Choose the option to add or search for a new Bluetooth device.
  4. Your RollerMouse will appear automatically in the list. Select it to establish the connection.

Method 2: Connecting via USB dongle

  1. Insert the dongle into a free USB port on your computer. Preferably use a port directly on your computer, not a USB hub or docking station.
  2. Turn on your RollerMouse using the power switch (I).
  3. Your computer will recognize the device automatically within a few seconds.
  4. Move the roller bar to test whether the cursor responds.

Method 3: Wired USB connection

  1. Connect the included USB cable to your RollerMouse and to a free USB port on your computer.
  2. Your computer will recognize the device automatically.

Note: once the USB cable is connected, the wired connection takes priority. The wireless connection (Bluetooth or dongle) is temporarily disabled as long as the cable is connected.

Re-pairing after connection problems

Sometimes you lose the connection, for example after a system update, because you've plugged the dongle into another computer, or because the RollerMouse simply lost the pairing. Your RollerMouse has five pairing options for this, all accessible from the Cursor Speed button (B).

Restart Bluetooth pairing

  1. Press and hold the B button.
  2. Press the E button (left-click) twice while holding B.
  3. Release the B button.

Use Bluetooth only (disable dongle)

  1. Press and hold the B button.
  2. Press the E button three times while holding B.
  3. Release the B button.

Use dongle only (disable Bluetooth)

  1. Press and hold the B button.
  2. Press the F button (right-click) three times while holding B.
  3. Release the B button.

Restore pairing with the dongle

Is your dongle not working? Follow these steps to restore the pairing:

  1. Remove the dongle from the USB port and insert it again.
  2. Keep the RollerMouse close to the dongle (within 30 cm).
  3. Press and hold the B button.
  4. Press the F button twice while holding B.
  5. Release the B button.

Return to automatic pairing mode

Do you want your RollerMouse to determine which connection to use automatically? Follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the B button.
  2. Press the E button once while holding B.
  3. Release the B button.

In automatic mode, the RollerMouse will first try to connect to the dongle. If that's not available, it switches to Bluetooth using the last known pairing information.

Storing the dongle during transport

On the bottom of your RollerMouse, you'll find a storage compartment for the dongle (J). During transport, for example when working from home at a different location, you can safely store the receiver here so it doesn't get lost.

Frequently asked questions

The cursor doesn't respond at all, even after re-pairing. What now? Check in this order:

  1. Is the power switch on the bottom set to ON?
  2. Is the RollerMouse charged? Press the Cursor Speed button once to see the battery status.
  3. Try a different USB port on your computer.
  4. Avoid USB hubs and docking stations when pairing.
  5. Still not working? Reinstall the Contour Design driver from contourdesign.com/drivers and restart your computer.

Which connection takes priority if I connect everything at once? A wired USB connection always takes priority. Next comes the dongle, and finally Bluetooth. In automatic pairing mode, the RollerMouse first searches for the dongle before switching to Bluetooth.

My RollerMouse was connected, but stopped working after a Windows update. Restart Bluetooth pairing (hold B + press E twice) or restore the dongle pairing (B + press F twice). If that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall the Contour driver, and restart your computer.

Does my RollerMouse work on multiple computers? Yes. Via Bluetooth, you can pair it with different devices. Switch between devices using the Bluetooth settings of those devices. With the dongle, it only works on the computer where the dongle is plugged in.

Why doesn't USB pairing work through my docking station? Docking stations and USB hubs sometimes introduce delays or interference that disrupt the pairing process. For reliable pairing, we recommend plugging the dongle directly into a USB port on your computer. After successful pairing, you can place the dongle back in the dock if needed.
